Fair
Confidence in Rating:
Moderate
Stability Trend:
Improving

Bottom Line

Moving towards a lower likelihood but very high consequence if you were to trigger an avalanche. The weak facets we've been talking about are still there and will need some time to heal and strengthen. Obvious signs of instability are becoming less obvious.

Weather Summary

Cloud Cover:

A mix of sun and clouds with flurries mid-morning. Light west winds with minimal snow transport, but lots of snow is available when the winds do pick back up again.

Snowpack Observations

We did get reports early this morning of a 5 foot crown below treeline on a steep slope failing on facets and depth hoar near the ground. We are still getting collapse and shooting cracks but it is becoming more isolated. We did observe some small natural avalanches in steep terrain.

The facets are still there and will need more time to heal and strengthen with the considerable load we just added. Triggering an avalanche is becoming more difficult but the consequences would be huge!
