Signs of Unstable Snow

Observations

Went back to Elbow Mac today (N facing aspect, ~11000 ft). This weekends storm snow had settled a bit, as indicated by increasing stiffness under foot (now probably hand plus density) and the disappearance of snow from the trees. I observed less cracking then yesterday, but still got cracks. Minimal snow started to come in around 10:30 am with light winds. By the time I had left at 2:00 pm accumulation was maybe an inch. Winds were relatively light as the snow fell, and the flakes appeared to be stellar dendrites with some rime formation. Graupel from the beginning of the storm is still preserved at the new/old snow interface. Travel was still difficult off the skin track.
