Silverton Avalanche School 1 Day Rescue Course Santa Fe
February 19, 2021
Avalanche Rescue is a one-day stand alone course that goes further in depth on rescue techniques. New participants will learn the basics of companion rescue, while returning participants will expand their skill set with advanced topics and realistic scenario practice to help improve their skills after the course. This course meets guidelines set by the American Avalanche Association and also meets guidelines set by the International Commission for Alpine Rescue (ICAR). This course expands beyond what students learn in a Level 1 to more complex rescue scenarios. Students receive a certification card at the end of the course.
All students will have the opportunity to get feedback from an instructor on their rescue skills and timed practice with a realistic scenario. Students who have previously taken a Level 1 or an Avalanche Rescue Course will find value in having a professional help them set up a realistic scenario, practice skills in a realistic setting, receive feedback from an instructor, keep up with current best practices, and have an opportunity to practice advanced rescue skills.
Who Should Take this Course
The Avalanche Rescue Course is a one-day course aimed both at new and experienced recreational backcountry travelers, and aspiring snow professionals. Students pursuing the professional track are required to take the 1 day rescue course prior to the Pro 1.
This course is a mandatory prerequisite for both the Recreational Level 2 Avalanche Course and the Professional Level 1 Avalanche Course. Students taking the Avalanche Rescue Course need to be familiar with their own transceiver. Transceivers need to have flagging functions and have a three antennae system. If you have never used a transceiver before, you are perfect for our Backcountry Foundations 2-day course.
