Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Went up Long's Canyon during the storm.  Snow level was at about 8000'.  6 to 8 inches of snow fell since the morning, which was low density snow.  We did not observe any slab build up with only light winds.  Graupel layer was widespread near treeline on slopes but did not observe any noticeable layer below treeline.  Where we do find depth hoar (north through east aspects) stability tests continue to get moderate force with the ability to propagate.  We did notice small grained facets, more pronounced in between two slabs.  Failure was still on the depth hoar.  We were only finding low density snow on top of the graupel layer.

Photo 1: Snowpit on a NE aspect at 12,000' that shows the graupel layer, depth hoar on the bottom

Photo 2: Quick hand pit with the new snow on top of the graupel layer.
