More detailed information about the snowpack: 

Went out to Long Canyon on Thursday.  Overall, found a shallow snowpack less than 1.5 m on most aspects near and below treeline.  In many of our snowpits, our shallow snowpack is faceting out, with decomposing slabs. (See Video).  Above treeline, our snowpack still contains those faceted weak layers, however has harder more cohesive slabs that rest on top. (See Video)

Photo 1: Shallow snowpack on a west aspect below treeline.  Decomposing slabs with depth hoar on the ground. Very weak faceted layers in between the decomposing slabs.

Photo 2: Small wind slab avalanche on an East aspect.  Very small lens just below the cornice that was running on the old bed surface

Beautiful day with surprisingly cold temperatures, but felt warm in the sun.  Light winds with no snow transporting.
