Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Very light precip starting falling around noon.  Winds were calm and temps starting dropping with the storm approaching.  We headed into Long Canyon and checked out some NE to E aspects.  Travel on the trail was great with all the tree blow downs across the trail covered by the recent snowfall.  Surprisingly good skiing was found on NE and E aspects below the ridgline.  We did find surface hoar and near surface faceting that will likely be buried by the recent snowfall this afternoon.  Southerly and sun exposed aspects had a sun crust on them creating a firm and smooth sliding surface with the new snowfall. Travel was very supportable with low density snow on the surface.

Photo 1: Surface Hoar that had formed on a NE aspect around 11,000'

Photo 2: Small cornice development on E and NE aspects from the recent strong winds this past week.
