More detailed information about the snowpack:

I went up and over Wheeler Peak to get in one last hike in 2017.  Below the ridgeline in La Cal Basin pockets of hard wind slab formed in the winds that followed our last storm on (12/22).  I found that these winds slabs have deteriorate a little, but are still supportable hard slab.  Virtually all of the snow that can be found beneath these wind slabs are layers of facets with varying levels of development.  Snow coverage is limited to shaded slopes above 11,000 feet.  Where snow exists that is not compacted by wind, it is generally faceted to the ground, with near surface facets ranging from 1-2mm.
